Flick Soccer! HD – iPad App Review
Flick Soccer! HD is now here courtesy of Full Fat Games, the developers who created Flick Golf HD. Although Flick Soccer! HD’s UI is fairly direct, it’s worth spending a minute or two on the included tutorial before beginning to flick soccer balls across the pitch.
Flick Soccer! HD offers users a choice of five different modes: Quickshot, Endurance, Challenge, Crossbar, and Smash It!
In Quickshot the player tries to score as many goals while timed. Hitting the bulls eye extends the gameplay. Endurance counts the number of goals a player can make against a keeper and defenders with only four balls. However users earn additional balls by shooting down a moving target during play.
Challenge mode offers the user continually more difficult target-related shooting tasks. In Crossbar the goal is (you guessed it) to hit the crossbar. Smash It! sets up progressively smaller images covering the goal that the user needs to smash with the soccer ball.

The secret to Flick Soccer! HD is that the player needs to flick the ball, then adjust the ball’s trajectory in mid-flight to direct its course. Users familiar with Flick Golf HD will recognize this strategy. The only difference is that in Flick Soccer! HD there is much less time for the player to act, making the pace of the game unpleasantly frenetic at times.
Full Flick Soccer HD! supports Game Center. It is currently available to download in the App store for $4.99.
What I liked: Smash It! was my (entire family’s) favorite mode. Overall, the app’s UI was easy to learn and the game functioned well. The graphics were high quality.
What I didn’t like: Quick shot and Endurance mode were frustrating because you have to aim the ball twice, and so quickly that it became physically uncomfortable to play for long periods of time. The pace was too frenetic to be enjoyable, even for the more serious gamers in my household.
To buy or not to buy: Flick Soccer! HD isn’t difficult to master, and it will certainly keep soccer-obsessed kids interested. At $4.99, the app is priced higher than many of its highly-rated competitors including Flick Kick Chelsea ($1.99) and Kick Flick Soccer HD ($0.99).
