Maxim Reappears in App Store, Charges $2 More Per Issue
Earlier this summer, Maxim pulled its Maxim HD iPad app from the App Store, with the intention of re-releasing it with Moving Media’s Mag+ publishing system.
As of August 27th, the app has been back in the App Store, with an all new price tag. The new Maxim+ Magazine app can now be downloaded for free, but issues, available as in-app purchases, will now cost $5.99.
With the previous app, Maxim only charged $3.99, meaning this new app is a $2 price increase. I’m sure you’re wondering what exciting new features Maxim added to cause the magazine to be more expensive, but unfortunately, there’s nothing to report in that department. The magazine offers the exact same features of the old Maxim HD app.
The Maxim+ iPad app features the content of the print issue plus extra photos, videos, and other interactive features.
The $5.99 per issue isn’t exactly a stellar deal, but it’s even worse because the magazine can be purchased using the Zinio magazine reader app for just $15 per year. This may indicate that Maxim intends to add a yearly subscription, but if you’re a loyal Maxim reader or plan on downloading more than 3 issues, Zinio’s the better choice for now.
