All of my friends know that I love pasta more than any other food. This is why I loved Bon Appetit: Pasta Perfect. This app is a beautifully laid out iPad-based cookbook filled with amazing recipes for the perfect pasta meal, displayed in vivid full color detail.
I don’t recommend looking at this app when you are hungry, unless you have a fridge full of potential ingredients and enough time to whip up a little something.
The book contains 100 recipes from a variety of categories, including: new classics, baked, ravioli and other filled pastas, gnocchi and spaetzle, pasta salads and sauces.
Each recipe is very clearly laid out and easy to follow. Each includes an ingredient list with exactly how each item should be prepared (chopped, divided, sliced, grated, etc.) and in what quantity. The number of servings is also included, so you know just how many people you can expect to feed. Test kitchen tips will give you insider suggestions on ways to improve your meal or switch things up a bit.
The directions are numbered and very easy to follow. There are no assumptions based on skill or experience, so each step is listed which should increased your odds of success.
As you browse the recipes, drooling over each picture, hot keys allow you to jump to the ingredient list, tips and directions.
What I liked: There is a clear ingredient list for each recipe, but they are also listed in the margin next to your directions. This makes it easier to cross-reference between the two while you have your meal on the go.
What I didn’t like: Every picture looks delicious and beautiful, and it drove me nuts that I wanted to try every single recipe –even those that contained foods that I don’t like.
To buy or not to buy: If you are a pasta lover and looking for new meal ideas, you can’t go wrong with this app.
