Android Still Tops for Mobile Advertising According to Millennial Media

Millennial Media just released their July Mobile Mix Report and the numbers show that, for the second year in a row, Android ranks highest over all other operating systems for advertising impressions.

Millennial Media’s Mobile Mix reports key advertising trends with a focus on mobile manufacturers, devices and operating systems. Some highlights from the report include, Apple is number one with 26.45 % of the share of mobile device manufacturers and the iPhone is the number with mobile phone manufacturers.

Android takes the market share with 61% of smart phone owners using the operating system, which is a 15% growth month-over-month. Android also ranked highest in Application Platform Mix with 48% of the share, while Apple’s iOS followed closely behind with 43%.

Games took first place for top 10 global applications for its second year in a row, while music & entertainment move into second place. Mobile social networking fell in the ranks while health and fitness jumped onto the list in 7th place.

Considering Android spans across hundreds of different mobile devices, it makes sense that it ranks highest in mobile operating systems, but considering Apple only releases iOS on its own devices, the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad, 21% of the market is relatively high. Still, there is no doubt that Android wins over iOS for quantity. Good for you Android.
