Miramax’s Facebook App Lets You Stream Movies On iPad

Facebook continues its aggressive move towards video content streaming. Although watching movies on Facebook isn’t a new topic for many, the social network company has inked a partnership with Miramax that will bring Facebook users one of the largest streaming movie catalogs.

The Miramax eXperience app is now live (beta) on Facebook and now offers 20 titles for rent in the U.S. and 10 in the U.K. and Turkey. Better yet, the new Miramax rentals can be watched on your iPad.

The Miramax eXperience app is not an iPad native app, however the web based application has been optimized for the iPad experience. In addition, the web based application includes a social game that lets users cast friends in Miramax movies. You can also unlock bonus content as you play the movie. Google TV users can also enjoy the new browser-based player.

But, how do you pay for the online rentals? Facebook users can rent the online movies for 30 Facebook credits, which is the equivalent of $3. Your rental will be active for 30 days, but keep in mind that your viewing window is 48 hours once you start to watch a movie.

This is a revenue share commercial agreement between Facebook and Miramax. Facebook will pick up 30 percent of the money when you rent a movie, while Miramax gets 70 percent.

We played a little bit with the new service. The video player does deliver a quality video experience. However, don’t expect a full blown video player where you can easily skip scenes and start quickly from where you left off.

If you want to give it a try, you can access the new Miramax eXperience app from your iPad by clicking here.
