New Rumors Suggest iPhone 5 in September and iPad 3 by Thanksgiving
If you put your ear against a seashell and listen really hard, I am certain you will hear rumors about the iPhone 5 or the iPad 3. We want new hardware and we want it badly, and even the slightest rumble in the newswire perks up our eyes and ears and gets us excited. Today is one of those days, with news out of China that supplies have been ordered for the first production run for both units.
If the rumors are to be believed, the iPhone 5 will be launching in the second week of September while manufacturing shortages are pushing off the release of the third generation iPad until sometime after Thanksgiving.
Speculation, and we love to speculate, says that a fall launch of these devices makes sense in order to coincide with the much anticipated release of iOS 5. But what will they look like?
While many believe that the iPhone 5 will in large part resemble the existing iPhone 4, there have been several supposed case designs and images leaked that suggest there will be considerable changes. Aside from cosmetic changes, it seems logical to expect any new phone hardware to have an improved camera and a faster processor.
Expectations for the iPad 3 revolve significantly around the addition of an improved display, something that is expected to rival the Retina display found on the current iPhone. If that turns out to be the only real change, it may be more accurate to call this the iPad 2.5 or the iPad 2 Pro instead of the iPad 3.
No matter, subtle changes or drastic, I already know I want them. The masterminds at Apple know it too. But those same masterminds have been known to pull their own version of the bait-and-switch.
Regardless, it does seem certain that something is brewing.
One thing to remember amidst the rumors is that launching a product doesn’t necessarily mean shipping a product. Actual delivery of the units may follow some time after the announcement… so don’t get your wallets out just yet.
