Midnight Mysteries iPad App – Not Your Typical Murder Mystery …

Unless of course, you are often visited by ghosts of famous American writers asking you for your expertise in the paranormal.

Much like the first two installments in the Midnight Mysteries series, the story in Midnight Mysteries: Devil on the Mississippi is gripping enough to make players, me included, wish that it were more real than it is.

Mark Twain comes to you in the night, being chased by a clearly evil entity. He tasks you with discovering what this black hellspawn wants with his immortal soul, a foreshadowing of the difficult tasks ahead.

Many mechanics at play in Devil on the Mississippi are similar to Forgotten Places-Lost Circus, but this game has a unique style of its own. The horror theme is omnipotent throughout play, providing for a few adrenaline spikes along the way.

There are a number of prominent and mysterious historical figures in the storyline, all of which play interesting roles in the overall plot. Since players are immersed in the ghost story of Mark Twain, the transitions from 1800′s Mississippi to 1600′s London are done ever so smoothly.

Along the way, there are a number of puzzles which must be solved in order to advance and for some of the more difficult ones, which are quite challenging, I’d suggest keeping a few hints handy to avoid pulling out your hair.

I won’t spoil the ending, mainly because I was happily surprised. Usually I see endings for movies/games coming from a mile away and my jaw was fully extended at the end of this installment of the series.

What I liked: The story was engaging and thrilling, holding interest throughout and delivering at the finale! Also, after playing for about an hour straight (the first of many instances), I only made it about 30% through the game.

What I didn’t like: The touching seemed a little unresponsive, which could get frustrating when tapping the correct place numerous times.

To buy or not to buy: At $6.99 iPad users start to wonder whether or not the bang will be worth the buck, but in this case it most definitely is. Midnight Mysteries: Devil on the Mississippi is a must for hidden object and escape game enthusiasts.
