Frigglepants Makes Reading A Blast Off – iPad App Review

Little Frigglepants Builds a Ship was created by a stay-at-home mom who has managed to use what precious little extra time she has to build a website dedicated to preschool activities that she loves to share with others. HomemadePreschool is full of worksheets, lesson plans and other creative ideas. Frigglepants is one of her clever and exciting endeavors.

This unique book was created and published through an interesting website called TaleSpring. This site will let you create and illustrate your own digital book for free. For $150 and 50 percent of your royalties, you can have the book published and made available on iTunes.

Little Frigglepants Builds a Ship is about the adventure of a bored little boy, Frigglepants, and his naughty baby sister, Baby. Frigglepants gets the bright idea to build a rocketship and takes Baby with him on an imaginary (or is it?) adventure through outer space.

Each page of this book has many interactive options. You can touch words to make them spin, touch bubbles to make them pop and touch Mom to change her outfit. You can even touch nothing at all and a secret image will appear. Your job as the reader is to find all of the hidden objects on each page, but don’t settle for just finding it. You can tap on images more than once. A spaceship will move across the screen on one tap and spin around in circles on the second tap. Play around with each image and see what you discover.

There is a Read to Me option that, unless I am wrong, is narrated by the writer’s preschool-aged children. This child-like reading adds a sweet naivety to the book and brings the characters to life as they adventure along the pages.

This is an amazing book, full of wonderful discoveries. It is so much fun that children of all ages, and adults too, will spend hours discovering what each page has to offer.

What I liked: Each page is filled with a new and exciting adventure. Trying to find the hidden object brings additional discoveries that keep you engaged for hours.

What I didn’t like: You can’t select a specific page or go straight back to the main menu. That is an important feature in digital books. Hopefully, this will be added in an update.

To buy or not to buy: Not only is the book creative and unique, but it is only $1.99. At that price, you are getting more than your money’s worth. Buy it today and leave feedback so that Homemade Preschool Mom knows that she made an awesome book.
