Stop the Monster Invasion in Monster Trouble HD

Monster Trouble HD, a popular tower defense game, has been available on the iPhone and iPad since April. This weekend, distributor NuOxygen released a new universally available version that comes packed with brand new game features, making an already good game even better.

In Monster Trouble, it’s your job to put an end to the non-stop monster invasion. The world is filled with Goblins, Ogres, and other terrible creatures, and the people must gather to defend their houses from wave after wave of attacking monsters.

Like many defense games, this one starts with building towers on a path before monsters start swarming. Tapping the button on the right hand side of the screen will allow you to construct a tower which you can place anywhere on the field, and tapping the minion button on the left hand side will give you a soldier to place in the tower.

To survive the onslaught of monsters, you must build solid defenses using a selection towers of brick and wood, populated with villagers. There are 10 different towers to build, each with a unique feature, and 10 different monsters to defeat in each level.

When monsters die, they drop treasures like potions and coins, which must be gathered quickly, or they will disappear.

You can help your defensive team by dropping potions, which will kill monsters or heal your villagers. It’s also your responsibility to put out fires with buckets of water and to distribute villagers where they are needed. Villagers can be moved from tower to tower, wherever they are most useful, which is a unique feature that’s not found in most tower defense games.

A territory can be defended with just a few people (by moving villagers from tower to tower), which allows for a lot of strategy and important decision making beyond just the typical mass construction of towers. Monsters will swarm you from every direction, so it’s important to be on your toes when playing. Surviving a level will advance you to the next level, and there are 36 different levels in all, across 10 maps, like Granny’s Farm, Gunter’s hut, the circus, and the village.

Monster Trouble features great 3D graphics that will immediately immerse you in the game, along with a fun cast of characters including Farmer, Hunter, Old Grandma, Fire Eater, and Gipsy.

For competitive types, there’s a leaderboard to keep track of daily scores, weekly scores, and all time scores.

When you finish all the campaign levels, there’s an entire survival mode to beat. This new update also adds a brand new survival level, Mount Evil, which can be purchased in-app for $0.99.

Overall, Monster Trouble is a real time action and strategy game that’s both challenging and addictive. With great 3D graphics and fun characters, this is one game you won’t want to put down. If you’re a fan of defense games, you’ll definitely want to take a look at this one, as it has some unique features you won’t find in other tower defense games.

What I liked: Being able to construct towers and defenders separately made this game interesting. I could defend my town with just a few villagers, by moving them from place to place, which made strategizing a lot different than other defensive games.

What I didn’t like: Gameplay can be slow, and there’s no fast forward button to get through waves of enemies faster. I am not overly patient, and waiting was tedious. Fast forward is desperately needed and keeps this good game from being great.

To buy or not to buy: This is a solid tower defense game that’s fun to play. If you like the genre, I think you’ll like this game. There’s a lite version available, so check it out and start slaughtering those evil monsters today.
