The Fish May be Tiny, But The Action Is Big – Tiny Fish For iPad
Tying to keep your fish alive is supposed to be as easy as feeding and changing water every once in a while. But with Tiny Fish by Appgeneration is a bit more challenging than making sure your water pet has enough to eat.
The game has 20 levels over two different arcades. Each level must be completed in order to unlock the next. You goal is to keep your tiny fish from starving, getting poked by by toxic elements and outrun the menacing Black Fish, all while completing tasks given to you at the beginning of each round. Things like surviving for a whole minute, obtaining 180 health points, or clear 100 rings. You stay alive by eating cookies to increase your health.
Tiny Fish uses the iPad’s accelerometer for tilt-action game play. You can calibrate your tilt for top-down, at a slight angle, or custom, which calibrates your tilt based on any way you hold the iPad. You can change this feature at any time by selecting the options menu from the pause screen.
The graphics are creative and pleasant. While scoring high on the cute meter, it doesn’t overdo it. The background music fits the game perfectly and is not the least bit annoying. If you find yourself distracted by it, you can always turn it off in the options menu.
What I liked: Tiny Fish is addictive. I played straight through to level 15 without putting it down once, not even to go to the bathroom. Although I usually don’t like games that require the tilt controls, this game works well with them. You don’t have to hold it up very high, or quickly turn you iPad to the left. This is the first time I have enjoyed using tilt controls on an iPad.
What I didn’t like: Although it is a lot of fun, it lacks a real challenge. It is a great game for casual play, but is easy enough to beat in one sitting. I’d like to see the option to adjust the difficulty level. Maybe make it harder to keep your health up.
To buy or not to buy: This game will win over a lot of people. It is cute, addictive and fun to play. It is a mere $0.99, which is less than a doughnut, so why not download it now. Just don’t eat it for breakfast.
