Twinkle Twinkle, from Super Simple Learning, is a new interactive children’s book based on an ultra popular YouTube version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Twinkle Twinkle features the same adorable and endearing owl and star duo from the video, in a new interactive picture book that reveals the story of the sweet friendship that forms between them.
When you open the app, you’re taken to a home screen with three story options: read to me, read myself, and auto-play. In read to me mode, the app will narrate the story, but allow you to control the pace, while read to myself is a fully manual mode, and auto-play narrates as well as turns the pages.
Simple, gorgeous 3D graphics will keep children and adults alike entertained when reading this story. The characters are animated and interactive. A tap on the owl, for instance, will cause him to blink and coo, while tapping the star will send him spinning and dancing.
In addition to story mode, you can also watch the original music video, with new, updated high resolution graphics. There’s also a simple star counting game that reads numbers as you count them, which provides another level of interactivity.
Twinkle Twinkle is the perfect bedtime story. It’s soothing and relaxing, with lovable characters, gorgeous graphics, and a classic storyline.
What I liked: The extras, like the music video and the star counting game really made this app shine.
What I didn’t like: There weren’t as many animations and interactions as I’ve seen in some other children’s books on the iPad. The owl and the star could be tapped on each page, but they essentially did the same thing every time. I would have liked to see a more interactive environment.
To buy or not to buy: You can never go wrong with a classic, and this animation is obviously a huge hit, if the 26 million YouTube views are any indication. I’d recommend checking out the video first, but this is a story that your kids are sure to love.
