Kickstarter – WINGStand iPad Keyboard Stand Receives Funding

Would it be possible to turn your iPad into the world’s sharpest multi-touch laptop? This is exactly what the WINGStand attempts to do via Kickstarter. The clever two piece plastic stand plans to turn your iPad into a comfortable computer.
The WINGStand already surpassed its target funding of $9,500. By the looks of it, this simple but very clever design will most likely become a very popular iPad accessory.
The WINGStand has been designed by Daniel Haarburger, who is currently studying at Stanford University. Daniel’s goal has been to give your tablet the same interactive capabilities as actual computers. The new stand physically integrates a wireless keyboard with an iPad, tablet, or smartphone. It connects to a full sized keyboard making it possible to type naturally as one would with an actual computer.
Although we haven’t had a chance to play yet with the WINGStand, I must say, I like this design. I’ve done quite a bit of travel the last few weeks and have observed how many iPad owners use their tablet for typing. I’ve seen many consumers using different iPad keyboard cases. Others simply place the tablet on their lap or a flat surface and type away, while some simply buy cases that will position their iPads at a comfortable angle. It all depends on your specific use and daily activities.
The WINGStand seems to solve the typing issue for many folks that need to type or write quite a bit with ther iPads. By simply bringing the iPad closer to a wireless keyboard, the WINGStand creates a de-facto laptop. The stand allows you to remove, rotate and reconfigure the tablet in any orientation. In addition, it enables you to switch between different devices for different circumstances, and can even work as an upright stand without a keyboard when needed.
If you’re looking for a very affordable solution to use your wireless keyboard and your iPad, the WINGStand certainly shows great potential. You can still make a pledge and reserve one of the first units off the production line. For $20 you can get a white stand. For $30 you will get an exclusive black unit. If you decide to pledge $100, you can receive either a black or white WINGStand plus a brand new 2011 Apple wireless keyboard.
