Explore With Farmer Jon HD – iPad Game Review
Explore with Farmer Job HD is a very different sort of app. Designed for children and marketing itself as an interactive sticker book, you are able to explore and customize over 20 different scenes using over 500 pieces of art, animation and music.
The beauty of this app is the potential for learning. Adding an animal to the scene allows you to hear it’s name or the sound it makes and see the name on the screen. In addition, you can wake the animals by choosing for it to be day or put them to sleep by turning the scene to night.
No aspect of the farm is left out –you can even plant a garden and watch the vegetables grow!
My favorite parts of the app are the hidden gems. Each scene has a hidden baby chick and you can seek out birds, butterflies and insects to interact with.
As you play the app you will also stumble upon little hidden games such as the ‘chick piano’ where you can make music using the chirping of baby chicks.
I believe that there is appeal with this app for children of all ages. Older children will appreciate being able to truly design and play with their farm scenes while toddlers will enjoy the sounds and interaction that occurs by tapping or swiping almost anywhere on the screen.
The app functions in two modes: with help and without. If you’d like Farmer Jon to guide you through the scenes, choose to use help and listen to his helpful suggestions.
What I liked: This app reminds me of the old peel and stick style sticker books I had when I was a kid. I always loved moving the stickers around and perfecting each scene until it looked just right. This app takes that concept to a whole new level by making your ‘stickers’ interactive!
What I didn’t like: I found that the sound levels were a little inconsistent with this app. If you want to be able to properly hear Farmer Jon speaking, the animals are quite loud, so I found myself fiddling with the volume a lot.
To buy or not to buy: If you have a child with a vivid imagination and a love for animals, this is a must-have app.
