iOS Ad Impressions Continue to Grow, Apple is Top Device Manufacturer

Mobile advertising company Millennial Media released their June 2011 report today, and Apple continues to be in the lead on Millennial Media’s ad network.

Apple devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad) account for 30 percent of the Top 15 Manufacturers impression share, far above the next closest competitor, Samsung, with 14.94 percent of impressions.

 

The iPhone took the number one position in the top 20 mobile phone rankings, with a 16  percent impression share.

Ad impressions overall, on all Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7, RIM, and Symbian devices grew by more than 10 percent, and the connected device category (iPads, iPod touches, Sony PSP, etc.) grew 13 percent, to make up 18 percent of all impressions on the Millennial Media network.

Overall, iOS impressions grew 18 percent since last quarter, while Android impressions only grew 11 percent. Android remains the leading OS on the network with a 54 percent impression share overall, and 16 of the top 20 phones are Android phones.

Though Android is the leading OS, Apple devices account for 49 percent of all Application Platform Mix revenue (a 12 percent growth), while Android devices only account for 41 percent. Bringing up the rear, RIM devices were responsible for 9 percent of revenue, and the remaining 1 percent included Windows Phone 7, Symbian, and Palm.

Millennial Media’s report also revealed that games are the top mobile application category, with music and entertainment coming in second, and social networking coming in third.
