Apple Releases iOS 4.3.4, Fixes Security Vulnerability

Last week, a PDF exploit was brought to light by hackers at jailbreakme.com who used it to create a browser based jailbreak for iOS devices. If you don’t know what jailbreaking is, it’s the manipulation of flaws in iOS code that allows people to use software not approved by Apple (more details here).

While the hackers behind the site did not have malicious intent, it soon became clear that the vulnerability was easily exploitable and could allow code to be run on an iOS device without a user’s knowledge.

On Friday, Apple released an update to iOS that fixes these vulnerabilities, disabling the security flaw that occurred when users used Mobile Safari to view PDF files.

The new iOS 4.3.4 update is available for all iOS based devices and can be downloaded by connecting to iTunes. It is solely a security fix for the security vulnerability, without new features or other fixes.
