Pandora Gives Nod to iPad, Chooses HTML 5 Over Flash

Pandora

Pandora released an updated version of their website on Tuesday. The new design is built entirely in HTML 5, eliminating their previous dependency on Flash. While the decision to use HTML 5 on this high-profile site may not sit well with Adobe, it helps side-step compatibility issues with devices that don’t support Flash and offers potential gains in performance areas such as battery life when dealing with mobile devices.

The new design will be launched this week for Pandora One members and will become visible to everybody soon afterward.

The redesign boasts having a more modern look and feel in addition to being much faster and easier to use. Other updated features include better search capacity and a social networking component, allowing you to share your song and artist details on Facebook and Twitter. Improved controls, including a persistent playback bar such as the one found in the iPad app, let you navigate the site without interrupting your music.

Pandora is an online music service that identifies themselves as having a single mission: To play only music you’ll love. Taking advantage of Music Genome Project analytics, Pandora seeks to create custom radio stations for each user based on their input. Begin by entering the name of your favorite artist, song or genre and Pandora will scan their database of analyzed music (from the well known to more obscure) and compile a playlist of songs that are musically similar to your choice.

Pandora is a living organism. The more feedback you give the system, the more custom tailored your experience will be.
