The Truly Great Noodle – iPad App Review

Add another book to your children’s app collection with The Truly Great Noodle from developer Grids Interactive and do your part to help Kids Against Hunger in the process.

When Nate sits down to dinner in his kitchen and begins to eat, he encounters an unbelievably long noodle.  “Off the table and onto the floor,” Nate’s noodle stretches “right out the door.”  Twisting and winding from Muddy-Bottom Lake to Fiselbert Park, over the town’s tallest tree, eventually stopping at Gower’s Junk Store.  Nate ate late into the night only to find a big surprise waiting for him in the end.

Reminiscent of the Dr. Seuss stories we know and love, The Truly Great Noodle is entertaining and fun to read. Visually appealing graphics will interest readers, while animated objects and interactive features on each page will keep them engaged.  Beginning readers will benefit by watching the highlighted words as they are read and more experienced readers will appreciate the option to record their own version of the story to play and replay.

Readers have several options to read and play in The Truly Great Noodle. Simply touch the meatball at the bottom of the page and a menu appears with choices.  In storybook mode, children are given the opportunity to explore pages and discover interactive objects only after reading is complete.  They’ll enjoy searching for the little mouse, playing with Nate’s Burp-O-Meter and listening to original songs.

In addition to providing hours of entertainment for your children, Grid Interactives supports kids through its associations with charitable organizations.  These developers realize not all children end their day with a full belly like Nate and pledge to donate a portion of the sales from The Truly Great Noodle to Kids Against Hunger, a U.S.-based humanitarian food-aid organization “feeding families around the world…and around the corner.”

What I liked: This fun story both entertains and helps kids.  There are plenty of interactive and animated features to keep kids engaged and I applaud the idea of giving back to the community.

What I didn’t like: It might be nice for younger children to have an Auto Play mode.
