Apple’s Suppliers Potentially Preparing For Fall Launch of iPhone 5 and iPad 3

According to a new report from DigiTimes, the Taiwan-based companies who supply Apple with parts have started to prepare materials for the production of the next generation iDevices – the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3.

DigiTimes says that the new devices may be announced sometime in September and are slated for an October release.

The report mentions that we will be seeing just one new model of both the iPhone and the iPad, which contradicts some rumors that have been floating around on the Internet.

“The sources pointed out that Apple only plans to launch one model of the new iPhone, while iPad 3 has just recently been added to the production schedule with both set to be produced in small volumes in August and the volume will start picking up in September and October.”

There is speculation that two new variations of the iPhone are going to be released this year: a larger screen version, the iPhone 5, and a new version of the iPhone 4, updated, but with a smaller screen and a lesser cost. If this report from DigiTimes turns out to be accurate, then those rumors are effectively squashed.

The new iPad, whenever it’s released, is supposedly even thinner and lighter than the current iPad 2, with an enhanced resolution of 250 DPI, double that of the iPad and iPad 2.

While we’re all expecting the new iPhone this year, a new iPad would be unusual. So far, both the first iPad and the second iPad have been released in the spring, rather than in the fall. Will we see two iPads in 2011? Personally, I hope that Apple sticks to its traditional release cycle, because waiting in line for over twelve hours for a shiny new iDevice is something I’d prefer to do just once a year.
