Marathon for iPad to be Released Soon
Back in 1994, Marathon, created by Bungie Software was one of the best games available on Apple’s Macintosh computers. Marathon was a first person shooter science fiction game that was popular enough to spawn two sequels.
Today, over 15 years after the game’s release, one developer, Daniel Blezek, is working on bringing the classic game to iPads everywhere.
Back in 1999, before an acquisition by Microsoft, Bungie Software released the source code for Marathon, which made Daniel Blezek’s self-porting project possible. He’s worked on it since 2010, shortly after the iPad was released.
After tireless work on porting the game over, working out coding issues, and solving the problem of a lack of a mouse and keyboard, the game is finally close to release.
The new game, with completely optimized graphics, runs at a consistent 30 FPS. It’s controlled by a virtual joystick for movement on the left, with weapon buttons on the right.
Marathon is set to go live as soon as it receives approval for Apple, and it will cost a whopping $0 dollars. That’s right, developer Daniel Blezek is releasing the entire game for free, so fans of the original everywhere will be able to enjoy it with no out-of-pocket costs.
