Ice Cream Fine Storybooks Hits App Store with Ug & Gobberwobbly – Win a Free Copy
New to the app scene, Ice Cream Fine Storybooks is a brother and sister duo with much promise. Now seventeen years after selling their first story to their parents for a single ice cream cone each at the ages of seven (Patrick Buss) and six (Kate Buss), the talented pair have two children’s app available in the App Store: Ug and Gobberwobbly.
Self proclaimed starving artists, Buss says he and his sister took a chance and are now “hoping against hope that some child or parent will enjoy our work, perhaps inspiring them to utilize one of their many talents, or perhaps simply providing them with a little treat of the day… such as when I was seven and my sister was six, and we ate ice cream.”
Although the world has changed significantly since the time of the cavemen, kids still need to learn many of life’s lessons on their own. Ug is the story of a prehistoric cave boy who is one day instructed by his Mamug and Papug to attend school so he can learn to hunt, cook and draw. Wonderfully illustrated and written in cave-speak prose, kids will enjoy this story of a young boy, his adventures with animal friends and the way he finds his way back to the ones that “love Ug big, big much” — his family. Kids also get to test their artist abilities in the Cave Paint section of this app. Play with stickers and create their own cave drawings for hours of fun!
If you’re like me, you often wonder how you end up with so many missing socks when you do laundry? Well, now I think we might have a Gobberwobbly lurking about in our house! Gobberwobbly is the charming story of a “ferocious sock-eating monster,” who if caught and tamed will “love you forever and ever.” Soothing harp music, beautiful illustrations and lots of interactive features will make this one of your children’s favorite storybook apps.
Both stories let kids claim the book as their own by writing their name on the first page with their finger. Each includes three ways to read and enjoy: Read Myself, Read to Me and Auto Play. The first two options allow readers to explore the stories’ interactive features and are instructed when to do so on the pages that have them, while Auto Play moves through the entire story without the opportunity to explore. A list of pages is easily accessible from a pull down menu in the top right corner of each page, letting users quickly jump around the book should they so desire.
