My Daddy – iPad App Review

Kids across the country celebrated their fathers yesterday and now they can think about how much he means to them every time they read TaleSpring’s new universal app, My Daddy. This interactive eBook shows many ways a little boy spends time with his Daddy.  Together they work on homework, play catch, read books and much more.

Like most children’s book apps, My Daddy lets readers choose to read themselves or have the text read to them.  With each new page, kids get the opportunity to read the sentence and then tap it to hear the text.  Words are highlighted when read to encourage word recognition.

Each page also brings kids the opportunity to explore by tapping objects to discover which ones become animated when touched.  Be on the lookout for the little white mouse on every page and find out what he does when touched.

Readers move through the book by tapping the forward or backward arrow at the bottom of each page and begin reading and playing all over again.

My Daddy is a basic interactive book app that non-readers and beginning readers will enjoy.  You can download it from the App Store now for $1.99.

What I liked: My Daddy is a cute story for kids to enjoy reading and exploring with their fathers.  Following the little white mouse throughout the story will be fun for kids too.

What I didn’t like: It would be nice to have more interactive features on the pages, separate reading options and additional language choices.

To buy or not to buy: If you have young readers at home, My Daddy is a good choice at $1.99.  Older kids might not be as interested in the simplicity, so consider age before you buy.
