Show off your 3D Photos with LuxFolio – PadGadget iPad Photography Series

Part of PadGadget’s continuing series Become An Expert With PadGadget’s iPad Photography Series.

There are a few cameras and camera phones out there that allow you to take 3D images. Unfortunately, there are few ways to store and display those photos, outside of 3D TVs and the cameras themselves. LuxFolio is an app that turns your iPad into a portfolio for showing off your steroscopic photos.

With LuxFolio Stereoscopic Portfolio, your photos can be organized into slideshows and displayed directly on the iPad or to a connected monitor, TV, or video projector.

Photos are able to be played automatically, and a pause button allows you to stop the slides at any time. Left and right arrow keys are available for quick navigation to a previous position, and a timer allows you to set the interval between slides from 1 to 30 seconds. If you’re viewing slides on your iPad, you can set it to full screen mode.

For stereoscopic images, LuxFolio creates a standard side-by-side video signal, which most 3D televisions and video glasses are able to display in 3D stereo.

To display your 3D images right on the iPad, LuxFolio can convert them to anaglyphs, which is the standard red/blue format. In anaglyph mode, your 3D photos can be viewed using standard red/blue 3D glasses. There’s also a “wobble” mode to give the impression of depth to stereoscopic photos.

Anaglyph stereo pictures can be saved to your iPad Photo Album or be imported via iTunes File Sharing. 3D cameras which output .MPO files can also be imported into LuxFolio as pairs and also split into left and right images in JPEG format.

The app comes preloaded with some stereo pairs created by 3D artists. While I have no access to 3D images to test importing and television output, I was able to view the anaglyph versions using standard 3D glasses. I was also able to test importing standard photos, and I had no problem with that. Importing photos to the program is quick and easy, though it stuttered when creating slideshows with my full-sized large megapixel images.

LuxFolio is a great solution if you have 3D images that you want to store or show off. While it does store and organize regular photos as well, I would not buy it solely for that purpose. However, If you’re looking for a solution for your 3D images, LuxFolio is a good choice. LuxFolio Stereoscopic Portfolio is available for download in the App Store for $2.99.
