OnLive Reveals New Cloud Based Gaming App for iPad
We just got some very exciting news from E3: OnLive, a pioneer in cloud gaming, is soon releasing an OnLive Player App for iPad.
Gamers all over the world will be able to experience seamless integration of tablets and HDTVs with high-end gaming. No longer will lackluster system specs or a lack of a desktop computer keep you from playing popular games. OnLive promises to provide higher performance, richer gameplay, and deeper social integration than any console announced for 2012.
Today, OnLive for the PC, Mac, and TV offers over 100 games to play, with more being added. When the OnLive Player App for iPad launches, users will be able to play virtually all OnLive games right on the iPad, with touch capabilities or with an OnLive Universal Wireless Controller.
The OnLive Player App will allow you to use your iPad as a touch/motion controller to play games on your HDTV, PC, or Mac. Games can be displayed synchronously on your iPad and your HDTV for combined gameplay or displayed on either one, for gameplay on your HDTV or your iPad.
Synchronized or independent video can be played on the tablet and HDTV screen, allowing for combined gameplay with your iPad and HDTV, or separate gameplay on your iPad and HDTV. Voice chat enabled multiplayer is fully supported, in room and with people all over the world for a completely immersive multiplayer experience wherever you are.
All OnLive games will play seamlessly across all OnLive capable devices: iPad, iPhone, Android, and HDTV.
According to Steve Perlman, Founder and CEO of OnLive, “The OnLive Player App for iPad and Android shows how with the power of the cloud, the question is not whether cloud gaming will be able to catch up to consoles, it will be whether consoles will be able to catch up to cloud gaming.”
As part of the Onlive Player app release, OnLive is unveiling the first 10 gigabit cloud-based full-featured browser for iPad, Android, and HDTV. You’ll be able to browse the web (flash and video included) from ultra fast 10 gigabit/second web connections to OnLive’s cloud servers. So if you’ve been missing Farmville on your iPad, you won’t have to wait long to be able to tend those crops and feed those animals.
The only problem with these new services from OnLive? It’s not coming until the fall, which feels like an eternity for an app that could change the way we game on the iPad. If you happen to be at E3, check out a demo at OnLive’s booth.
