WWDC Companion App for iPad and iPhone Available in App Store

As a companion to Apple’s 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple has released an app for the iPhone and iPad.

The key features of the app include:

  • Detailed floor maps, indicating where sessions and labs are located
  • A complete filterable schedule with a detailed view of every session, lab or event and the ability to save entries into your favorites once they are viewed
  • Up-to-the-minute conference news as it happens
  • New photos from the conference, updated daily
  • Reservation system, allowing you to allocate time at the labs

The only catch: you must have a ticket to the conference in order to gain access to the app. Disappointing, too bad there wasn’t a birds-eye-view portion for those of us who aren’t attending to view news and event results.

After peeking at this app, I couldn’t help but wonder whether this wouldn’t be a good app to use as inspiration for creating mobile versions of our own corporate Intranets?

This is kind of pointless since access is limited to conference attendees and it won’t log you in. Why put it out there in ITUNES store for the general public?
