Part of PadGadget’s continuing series Get Cooking With iPad
KitchenPad Timer was designed for the busy cook. The concept is simple: the app lets a user set up to five stove top and four oven timers, permanently banishing the mathematical juggling act we have all done in order to cook multiple dishes using only microwave timer for assistance.
The app is full of thoughtful details. Not only can users set multiple timers, but it is possible to label each timer (i.e. “pasta” or “pot roast”), save a setting to favorites for easy re-use, and even customize the ringer. Without the burden of trying to remember multiple cooking times, it is much easier to get every dish to the table without any mishaps. The app supports Fahrenheit, Celcius, and even Gasmark temperature scales.
Anyone who has cooked Thanksgiving dinner, or any other large meal, knows how helpful it can be to set more than one timer while preparing a meal. I was, however, surprised how helpful the favorites setting was. It is very convenient to be able to recall the setting for different types of pasta with one touch.
KitchenPad Timer does everything but remind you to set it in the first place. This useful app is available for download in the App Store for $1.99.
The video below walks through how to use KitchenPad timer. Although the narrator alludes to KitchenPad Timer Lite, users who want to try out this free version of the app will have to wait, for it is not yet available for purchase.
What I liked: I loved having multiple timers at my disposal while cooking. With this app it was so easy to remember which timer I had set for which course, and the favorites saved me the trouble of entering timers I use frequently more than once.
What I didn’t like: I did not find the stove top temperature settings useful or necessary. I found the customizable alarm sounds, particularly “Euro Siren” and “engage,” annoying, and doubt I want to take the extra time while cooking to change the alarm setting.
To buy or not to buy: KitchenPad Timer is well-designed and easy to use. Users who need to set multiple timers while cooking and keep track of which dish is which, need look no further.
