Web Usage: iPad Competition Still Nowhere to be Found, iPad Alone Ahead of Android

Net Applications just released a new survey about the iPad’s web usage: unsurprisingly, the results show that the iPad’s web usage share is many times greater than Android-based competitors, and still higher than all Android devices combined – not just tablets.

Despite the fact that there are many more Android devices out there, Net Applications’s findings are simply astonishing: overall, the iPad alone is still well ahead when it comes to web consumption. Add to that the fact that the iPhone enjoys an even higher market share than the iPad, and you quickly realize that Android owners simply do not use their devices to browse the web nearly as much as their iOS counterparts.

As for the tablets market only, the gap is even more frightening: the iPad web usage share is over 50 times greater than its nearest competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Still convinced that the Android tablets will soon kick the iPad out of the picture? We’re still not sold…

No surprise here. I know a guy (it’s one of my co-workers) who is just anti-Apple. So he bought some Android phone because he wanted the hotspot feature two or three weeks before it was available on the iPhone. Next thing I came to know was that he didn’t get the darn hotspot working. Yep, Android sucks for real.

Apples and oranges compared (sorry, bad pun).  All the Apple iOS versions are grouped together yet the Android versions are called out separately.  Badly done comparison.

Actually, the graph does not include the iPhone at all, it’s iPad only vs all Android! In other words, my comments stand. If you want to see the iPhone added to the graph, follow this link: http://netmarketshare.com/report.aspx?qprid=11&qpcustom=Android+1.6,Android+2.1,Android+2.2,Android+2.3,iPad,iPhone
As you can see, all iOS combined is about 1% of the worldwide web usage, while all Android is about 0.15% – iOS ‘wins’ by a hefty margin.

How long have viable (i.e., Honeycomb) tablets been on the market? Two months maybe? Let’s see what these numbers look like in 6-12 months. Of course, the iPad is dominant and will remain so for a while–and kudos to Apple for being first and putting out a great product.

But if you think Apple will retain this kind of lead over the next 2-3 years, I have some swampland in Florida I’d love to sell you…
