Twitter Integration in iOS 5!

Calling all iPad tweeters (twitterers? twitters?): along with looking forward to all the other new features in iOS 5, you can now rest easy knowing that Twitter has made plans to integrate the service into the new operating system. iPad users that currently rely on other applications to post pictures to their Twitter feeds will now be able to use the native camera application to send pictures and movies directly.

In a Facebook-esque move, users will be able to attach photos directly to tweets from the website instead of having to use the tedious third-party method. This news comes a week short of the expected unveiling of Apple’s iOS 5 at the WWDC. For iPad owners, this means that rather than using one of the ever-so-efficient apps that PadGadget has reviewed, such as Tweet-Flow or TweetyPop, are one step closer to becoming obsolete.

Twitter has partnered with Photobucket to make all this possible. However, some of the other services that help tweeters (seriously, is it tweeters?) send photos to their followers may not be as excited as us consumers. TwitPic and yFrog, two such service providers, seem to be all but phased out by this move which will completely internalize the process.

Users should still be excited though, because this internalization will streamline sending pictures and may even allow for thumbnails to be posted on newsfeeds instead of a messy bit.ly link. Twitter has also reported improvements on the search capabilities, boasting inclusion of photos and videos in results (no more combing through old tweets!). These changes will first be available on computers and shortly afterwards mobile devices such as the iPad.
