Taposé for iPad — An Approved Kickstarter Project

The backers at Kickstarter have already approved Taposé, an unusual iPad app that was inspired by the defunct Microsoft Courier Tablet. According to its developers, Taposé brings the dual screen interface, which made Microsoft’s Courier so intriguing, to the iPad, and will allow users to interact with multiple devices simultaneously. Wow. Backers seem to agree because the project now has over 250% of its funding goal to date.

Taposé’s defining feature is its movable center bar that divides the iPad screen into two segments, but also acts as a temporary holder for images or sticky notes. Users can drag and drop from Safari, drag addresses into Maps, or names and phone numbers into Mail. The app’s design resembles a physical book that lets users draw within its pages as well as choose customized covers. Taposé will also support font formatting, free draw, an eraser, highlighter, sticky notes, image insertion, and list creation within the app.

Taposé sounds terrific, right? But we’re wondering if the developers might face problems getting past Apple’s stringent developer guidelines, particularly, the one which states: “Apps that create alternate desktop/home screen environments or simulate multi-app widget experiences will be rejected.” The developers claim they can code the app so it conforms to this rule. They point to the existence of Desktop for iPad, which does ‘simulate a multi-app widget experience,’ however, that experience stays firmly within the boundaries of the app and does not interact with Apple’s Safari or Mail apps.

Taposé’s developers might also run afoul of Apple’s retail policy by offering the app for pre-sale. The App store is not set up to accommodate a developer who wants to give the app to some customers while charging others, yet the developers have assured backers that they will be able to download the app from iTunes for free.

Are you willing to trust that Taposé will reach the app store by late summer, as developers have promised? Or do you think Apple’s rules and regulations with put an end to this project’s kick start?

Anyone who wants to pledge $10 to pre-order Taposé needs to do so before May 22nd at 3:15 p.m. EDT. Premium funding tiers offer perks such as a keepsake book on the creation of Taposé, and a stylus to use with the program.

It’s also not too late to catch one more quick (and cheap!) Kickstarter funding opportunity. Are you tired of your boring charging cable? Check out Juicies, colorful charging cables for iPad, iPod, and iPhone that come in a rainbow of colors. Juicies have been approved, and will be funded, but there is still a chance to support the project at the “pay what you can” level. Space at this tier is limited, but there is still time to support Juicies at a fraction of the final cost. The funding period ends Sunday, May 22nd at 3:15 p.m. EDT.
