Yahoo! Messenger Adds Voice and Video Support for iPad 2

Attention Yahoo fans! The official Yahoo! Messenger app for iPad has been updated and has added a native iPad user interface, as well as support for voice and video calling on the iPad 2.

Previously, Yahoo users would have to rely solely on the iPhone app, but the new iOS version lets them stay connected with friends whether they are on the iPad, mobile or PC. Get ready to share photos and videos with your Messenger contacts in real-time directly from the iPad 2.

The Yahoo! Messenger service is quite popular, especially because it allows users to connect with their friends on the Yahoo and Windows Live instant messaging networks, and it has also integrated the Yahoo! Voice service, which allows users to place international VoIP (voice over IP) calls to landlines or mobile phones. The service also allows you to send free text messages to mobile phones in select countries.

Yahoo! Messenger for iPad has the following features:

  • First official Yahoo! Messenger app designed specifically for the iPad.
  • Voice and Video: Make free voice and video calls to your Yahoo! Messenger friends.
  • Free SMS: Send free text messages.
  • Allows you to make low cost international calls to landlines or mobile phones via the integrated Yahoo! Voice service.
  • Get ready to share photos and video in real-time via the iPad 2.
  • Windows Live Interop allows you to keep your contacts in one place so that you can IM with your Windows Live Messenger friends.
  • Multitasking: Notification alerts are supported. You will be notified when an IM arrives, even when the app is running in the background.

If you’re a Yahoo! Messenger user, this is a great addition for iPad users. The voice and video calls to your Messenger friends will be free, so there is no need to worry about what equipment your friends are using, as long as they’re connected to Yahoo! Messenger on a iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Windows PC or Android phone.

Yahoo! Messenger for iPad is available now free of charge. The application is available in nine languages – English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Romanian.
