Race Gear-Feel 3d Car Racing Fun & Drive Safe is an app that strives to be a learning tool for children and teenagers while allowing them to also have fun.
This game suggests players will learn good driving techniques because of the physics involved in the game-play itself including skills such as learning the ideal speed for making u-turns, wide turns, sharp turns and blind turns. In addition the concepts of gradual acceleration and careful braking are rewarded. The interface allows you to view both the inside and outside of the car so you can experience the game as a driver and observer.
The interface is very simple, with the premise in all 3 game modes being to guide your car around the track while avoiding guard rails and therefore poor driving technique and damage to your vehicle. Very few customizations are available, with basically just the color of your vehicle being something you can change. The developers opted to go for a smaller app file size by using lower resolution graphics than what you might find in other racing games like Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD. Overall the graphics are fairly underwhelming but they do stream without jagged motion or blur.
What I liked: The controls were different than I expected and I found them quite comfortable to use. Being able to steer with one thumb and accelerate and brake with the other worked well for me.
What I didn’t like: I am failing to see why this is being marketed as a learning app. There is no instruction or correction for bad behavior on the track. It feels very much like a run of the mill racing game.
To buy or not to buy: I didn’t find myself terribly engaged by this game. While I did enjoy the controls, the graphics and game-play were only average.
