Juno Jr’s The Day The Music Stopped – iPad App Review

Juno Jr’s The Day The Music Stopped is a very special app designed for the very special preschoolers in your life. Being a parent, I was fortunate to be able to recruit my nearly 3-year-old daughter to help me give this app a test-drive. Overwhelmingly, she loved it which means I did too.

This interactive musical e-book is based on the award winning Juno Jr. DVD whose loveable characters are featured with stunning graphics and original orchestral music. The story is clever and easy to follow: join Juno and her brother Rai Rai along with their friends in saving Harmonia Springs from a future without music when the invention of a ‘shush machine’ causes problems. Everything in Harmonia Spings is made of music and the touch-screen interface allows you to play instruments and interact with the characters throughout the story.

The story features animation, videos and interactive content making this a total package.

There are two mini-games, one teaching harmony and the other melody. The play features both structured and unstructured play while encouraging children to learn the basics of creating music.

What I liked: The spoken directions were easy for my daughter to follow and kept her engaged as the story progressed. She also had a very easy time playing the mini games.

What I didn’t like: The more quality apps like this that are produced for the iPad means I need to share my device more often!

To buy or not to buy: Anything that can keep a preschooler occupied while also teaching them about music seems very worthwhile to me.
