Scene It? Movies 2 HD – iPad App Review

If you’re a movie buff or a movie lover, you’ll be excited to know that Screenlife, the creators of Scene It?, have just released a brand new iPad app, Scene It? Movies 2 HD. This is an all new, expanded follow-up to the original Scene It? Movies.

In case you haven’t heard of the franchise, Scene It? is the number one entertainment trivia game world wide, featuring all kinds of movie and TV show trivia. This revamped iOS version has new, enhanced puzzles and mini games featuring trivia from the last three decades of Hollywood hits.

To begin, you pick a category, such as chick-flicks or sequels, and select your wager, from 20 to 60 million in the first round (you’re given 100 million to start with). Then you’re given one of many trivia puzzles. I was pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of puzzle types available: painted movie scenes, rub to reveal, pixellated action scenes, movie quotes, word questions, and my favorite, actual movie scenes shown in high definition.

There are three rounds of questions, and in the first round, you answer five questions. As you progress, there are fewer questions for more money. To answer, you buzz in with a tap on the “answer now” button. Answer as fast as possible, because as the clock ticks down, you’re losing millions. If you answer too many incorrectly, you’ll lose all your money and when that happens, it’s game over.

Of course, there are power-ups that you can activate if you need a little help. There’s a 50/50 that can be used with the multiple choice answers and a time stop that works with all the questions. If you need even more help, there are two more purchasable power-ups available in game.

The game has a lot of categories, but if you want to add more, you can purchase additional content in app for $.99. I was worried that there might not be a lot of included content after I saw there were in-app purchases available, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I played many rounds of Scene It? and never ran into a duplicate question.

In addition to the regular game mode, there’s also a party version that you can play on the iPad or over AirPlay with Apple TV. The party version isn’t as fun – you’re in charge of keeping score yourself, and it’s just a simple series of questions with no categories or wagers like the single player portion of the game.

As in most games, there are leaderboards to keep track of your scores and to allow you to compete with your friends. You can post your high scores directly to Facebook and Twitter, and there’s a button that allows you challenge your Game Center friends to beat your scores. There are also plenty of achievements to get to show off your movie trivia prowess. Additionally, when you win a game, you get a special unlockable cartoon movie scene that can be saved or shared with friends.

If you’ve played and like Scene It? games, this isn’t going to be a disappointment. There’s plenty of content and the questions are portrayed in fun and interesting ways that makes this app great to play over and over again.

What I liked: There were tons of questions in many different categories, all of which were tough, but not too tough, and they were presented in ways that never got stale.

What I didn’t like: Multiplayer mode was definitely lacking, compared to the single player mode. I found that disappointing because Scene It? makes a great party game.

To buy or not to buy: Scene It? Movies 2 is available at a discounted price for a limited time, so this is the time to pick it up.
