Float – iPad Game Review

Playing Float is an addictive delight!  The developers claim that this is a game that makes you feel happy and that couldn’t be more true.

The premise of the game is easy: balloons fall from the sky and you have to bump, bump, bump them back higher keeping them safe from hazards for as long as the timer dictates.  Each level gets progressively more difficult with a larger number of balloons, new shapes of balloon and varied time on the clock during which you must protect them.

In total there are 9 game-play modes, a few of which are: ‘Normal’ (in which you must keep your balloons safe from the spikes at the bottom of the playing field), ‘Danger’ (in which there are obstacles throughout the playing field, not just at the bottom) and ‘Vacuum’ (where the hazard is actually to keep your balloons from being suctioned away).

Rounding out this excellent little app is support for Game Center, Feint and Facebook Connect, so you can climb the leaderboards and compete with others!

What I liked: I can’t believe how much this game feels like you are tapping an actual balloon! The sound effects are perfect and will remind you of exactly the noise of touching a real balloon.  I love that while you can get progressively better at this game, you do not need to read a lot of instructions or learn a lot of rules in order to enjoy it.  This is exactly the type of entertainment I enjoy most on my iPad.

What I didn’t like: The game is very simple. If you don’t enjoy mindlessly (though sometimes feverishly) tapping balloons around your device screen, you might get bored.

To buy or not to buy: This game is very simple to play, family-friendly, gentle-hearted and very fun. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this app.
