Sony’s Crackle Video Streaming App Approved by Apple

Ever since Apple prevented Sony’s Reader app from getting onto the App Store, Sony kept trying and working hard on bringing a new application that could showcase the company’s taste and access to video content.

Sony’s free Crackle app has been approved by Apple and it will give you access to hundreds of movies from Sony Pictures Classics, Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, and Tri-Star libraries. You also get the chance to enjoy a variety of TV series episodes.

But, how can Sony offer this application for free? Simple. First, the company has access to video content and it has the relationships. Second, since Crackle is a free application you will encounter short ads that appear during the video. However, most of the ads I’ve seen are short ads, which should not be a problem for many viewers. Let’s not forget that Crackle is a free application, with no subscription fee and free content.

As of now, the overall selection of movies is somewhat limited compared to other services like Netflix. But, the free app includes more than 200 video titles, and a diverse selection of TV episodes and original programming.

Sony is actually providing high-quality video streaming with a curated experience that fits quite nicely on the iPad. The video selection includes full-length Hollywood movies, and a very good selection of TV episodes from popular shows like Seinfeld, Married with Children, and many others. The same content can also be consumed on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

The application interface is quite easy to use. You can browse for movies and TV shows, and see featured and most popular movies. The application allows you to pause viewing and resume playback where you left off. You have your own Queue management for viewing content within the iOS application or online at Crackle.com.

Crackle’s engine will constantly push and inform you about the movies and TV shows that are appealing to the masses. You will be able to enjoy video content from multiple categories – action, comedy, crime, horror, thriller and sci-fi.

If you would like to get access to video content via WiFi or 3G, Sony’s Crackle iOS streaming app is a very good choice. As expected, Sony plans to add more content going forward.

Crackle is a universal iOS app, and it’s available to download for free now.

I can’t get it to work on my iPad for nothing. Keeps giving me connection errors while working fine on my iPhone? Go figure!

      Hi!

I haven’t seen any problems with the iPad. The app has been running steady via WiFi and 3G as well. Has worked well on iPhone as well.

Were you accessing the app via a WiFi connection or a 3G connection?
