Untethered iOS 4.3.1 Jailbreak Just Released for iPad and iPhone

The iOS jailbreak community has once again been busy at work, this time German security expert Stefan Esser has exposed a new untethered iOS 4.3.1 exploit used in updated versions of PwnageTool and redsn0w, released by the Dev Team earlier today

This latest jailbreak supports a wide list of iOS 4.3.1 devices including iPhone 4 (GSM only), 3GS, Apple TV 2, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generation and iPad are the only .  While it does work with the original iPad, iPad 2 users will have to continue to wait as the teams works to get an updated jailbreak released.

These new jailbreaks will not work on the iPad 2, as the device is immune to Esser’s exploit, and requires a different bootrom or iBoot-level exploit to be jailbroken.

If you’re looking to jailbreak your iPad,  you will want to use redsn0w as it works with both Mac and Windows. If you want to jailbreak your iPhone and keep your baseband unlocked, PwnageTool is a good option but it only will work with a Mac.

As with any jailbreak, there are some technical gotchas that you should be aware of before applying to your iOS device.  Be sure to read the warnings and release notes before attempting this on your iOS device.

Note: As always, jailbreaking your device could void your warranty. And please, do not use jailbreaks to install copyrighted apps you haven’t purchased.
