Rovio Sells 10 Million Copies of Angry Birds Rio in 10 Days

Whether you like the game, or hate it, it’s hard not to be impressed by Angry Birds’ popularity: the latest sequel of the franchise, Angry Birds Rio, was downloaded a whopping 10 million times in just 10 days.

Rovio, the development shop behind the app, broke the news yesterday via a somewhat cryptic tweet, “10 in 10.”

The app was simultaneously released on iPhone, iPad, and Android. While Rovio didn’t offer any details about the breakdown between platforms, it is safe to assume that the app generated several millions of dollars in sales in a matter of days.

Angry Birds Rio is the result of the collaboration between Rovio and 20th Century Fox. In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio, Brazil, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save Blu and Jewel, the main characters of the upcoming movie ‘Rio’.

Angry Birds Rio is by far the best game of the franchise, and this time around, things have been shaken up a bit, as the pigs are gone, and instead, the goal of the game is to smash cages to free captured birds.

The game is available on the App Store for $2.99 (iPad) and $0.99 (iPhone).
