Fortune Magazine Names Apple as ‘Most Admired’ Company
For the fourth year in a row, Fortune Magazine has named Apple as the world’s “Most Admired” company. To determine the winners, Fortune Magazine polled businesspeople and asked them to vote for the company they admired most across any industry.
Apple edged out tech giant Google and Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway to once again land the top spot on this year’s list. The Cupertino based company has been racking up several awards over the past few years. Just last year, Steve Jobs was named the ‘Smartest CEO’ by Fortune and the Financial Times named him their ‘Person of the Year’ for 2010.
The magazine said Apple’s “blistering pace of new product release” set it apart from the competition and continues to raise the bar for all companies. Fortune cited several reasons contributing to Apple’s success last year inlcuding the launch of the iPad and iPhone 4. Apple’s addition of Verizon as an iPhone network provider was seen a “huge move” giving customers an option other than AT&T for their cellular service.
Apple selection as ‘Most Admired’ company comes after the successful unveiling of the new iPad 2 this past Wednesday. If the iPad 2 lives up to the success of the first iPad, Apple should be another top contender for the award in 2012.
