Apple Reportedly Clearing iPad Stock Ahead of iPad 2 Launch

Website 9to5 Mac reports that Apple has stopped production of the first generation iPad in preparation of the iPad 2′s launch this week. “It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, but Apple has stopped production of the original iPads and cut of supplies to the channel.” [sic]
According to 9to5 Mac’s sources, retailers are limited to iPad inventory on hand with no word on when new inventory will be available.
While other retailers inventory may be getting low, the Apple Store still appears to have solid iPad inventory levels according to its website. We checked the Apple online store and based on a random sampling of different countries, all stores have iPads in stock and show them shipping within 24 hours.
It’s not unusual for Apple to tighten its supply chain when a product refresh is imminent. With the iPad 2 media event just a day away, now is a perfect time for Apple to cut production to make sure it’s not stuck with unsold iPad inventory.
