Stream Music Files Wirelessly on iPad/iPhone with WiFi2HiFi
Our iOS devices at PadGadget are constantly streaming music. All that wonderful music is what keeps us motivated on a daily basis. There are several music options for you in the App Store. I mostly use Pandora during office hours, and a Sonos Music System with its corresponding iOS app when relaxing at my house.
However, there is a new app on the App Store that also allows you to stream audio from any application over a local network to any of your iOS devices.
The WiFi2HiFi application turns your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into a wireless audio receiver for your stereo system or sound-dock. In other words, combined with a free desktop application you can listen to whatever audio program is playing on your computer.
For this setup to work, you will need to install the WiFi2HiFi application on your iOS device, and also install on your Mac or PC a companion application called WiFi2HiFi Station. You can download the Mac or Windows companion application from here. Once you’ve installed the WiFi2HiFi Station, the companion application will act like an additional audio output on your computer, which will provide the required streaming support for all popular audio programs on your Mac and PC.
After you install the WiFi2HiFi application on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, the Mac or PC application will automatically detect when your iOS device joins the same local network. The video below shows you how the entire setup works.
The WiFi2HiFi application is available now at a promotional price of $0.99.
Device requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running iOS 3.0 or later. The desktop companion application requires MAC OSX 10.6, Windows Vista or Windows 7. A local wireless network is required, or ad-hoc network for the Mac.
Editor’s Note: The current version of WiFi2HiFi application has been designed for the iPhone. At the moment, there is no native iPad application, but it will run on your iPad.
