iPad 2 Screen Protector Reveals Front-facing Camera – Ready to Video Chat?

We’ve covered numerous reports regarding the front-facing camera, newly discovered camera apps, and a FaceTime app for the next-generation iPad (iPad 2).

Now, a mysterious screen-protector has surfaced, and seems to confirm that iPad 2 will indeed have a front-facing camera like the iPhone 4. Are you ready to video chat?

The folks at 9to5Mac have gotten their hands on some photographs of what seems to be a screen protector for the iPad 2.

Up until now, we weren’t sure where the front-facing camera would be positioned. The 9to5Mac pictures show the screen protector with what seems to be a camera hole at the very top of the glass. These pictures coincide with what some folks witnessed during the launch of The Daily a few weeks ago. Back then, Reuters reported that one of their staff members saw a new iPad 2 at the launch event in New York city.

Another picture suggests the new iPad 2 could be a little bit taller and narrower than our current iPad.

Stay tuned. The launch of the next generation iPad is getting closer!

Does anyone even use Facetime anymore? After the novelty wore off after the first week, I can’t remember firing it up again…

    • Apple

I use facetime every single day. Talk with girlfriend and little young niece and nephews. I’ll wait till next year to buy an ipad. I was multi touch gestures as commands on my ipad.

That little hole on the screen protector is not for a front camera. It is for the ambient sensor.

I have never once seen a screen protector for any iPhone device that had a hole for the ambient light sensor. The light sensor does not need optical quality and never requires a hole. It just requires light to hit it. That’s why screen protectors have never had a hole for them. That’s for the camera.
