Oceanhouse Media Releases ‘Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed’ for iOS

Oceanhouse Media is at it again!  The popular app developer, together with global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, announced the release of their latest book app today and kids will love it.  Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed is a universal app that works on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Based on the well-known picture book about five little monkeys, this app includes the same funny story and original illustrations that kids know and love.  When the monkeys get ready for bed, they take a bath, brush their teeth, put on their PJs and say goodnight to Mama.  Just when Mama thinks her day is over and the kids are sleeping in bed, fun is only getting started for the rowdy little monkeys.  Each monkey takes a turn jumping on the bed and eventually falls off the bed and bumps his head.  It’s then that Mama calls the doctor and the doctor says, “No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”  What happens next?  Read the story with your own little monkeys and laugh together at the funny ending.

“The combination of humor and rhyme encourages young readers to learn to count as each monkey learns the risks of jumping on the bed,” said Michel Kripalani, Founder and President of Oceanhouse Media. “Author Eileen Christelow’s colorful illustrations of fun-loving monkeys naturally lend themselves to a playful digital version.”

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed includes three reading options.  Read to Me lets kids listen to the story and watch words highlight as they are read.  Readers turn pages when they are ready to move on in the story.  Read it Myself is intended for kids who can already read.  They may read the story on their own or tap the text and have it read to them.  Auto Play is perfect for those who are not yet reading.  This option is more like a movie where the story is read and advances automatically.  Additional features include:

  • Picture/word association – words zoom up and are spoken when pictures are touched
  • Words highlight and pop up in the story as they are read
  • Professional audio narration
  • Custom background audio for each scene

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed is another great app from Oceanhouse Media.  Kids and adults alike will enjoy the funny book app and all its options.  You can download Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed from the App Store now for introductory price of $2.99.

Devs who build iPad apps for kids just don’t get it: there is no market for such apps, it’s a waste of time and money.

Source: less than 15% of iPad users are less than 18 according to http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/consumer/the-connected-devices-age-ipads-kindles-smartphones-and-the-connected-consumer/. They don’t even take the time to count iPad users who are less than 10!

Satnislas, what a negative POV. iPad users regardless of age or numbers of them have a wide spectrum of needs. Young users, 18 or below have different needs for learning technology than those of older people for sure. I’m sure app developers are well aware of their targeted markets and make decisions on what to develop. In a free enterprise system, app developers will thin out naturally. In the meantime, just maybe there are developers more interested in the intrinsic value of technology and what it means for all ages, present and future. Something besides a fast buck!!

I can’t tell you how much I’ve spent on apps for my kids. Would be embarrassing! Anyone who thinks iPads aren’t for kids doesn’t have much experience with kids or iPads.
