Motorola Unveils Xoom Super Bowl Commercial
Sometimes the best part about the Super Bowl is the entertaining commercials you get to watch during the breaks. This year will be no exception and Engadget received a short preview of one of those commercials. Motorola will air its Xoom commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday and you can get a sneak peek now.
Motorola’s ad is reminiscent of, and an obvious jab at, Apple’s Ridley Scott-directed Super Bowl commercial for the debut of the Macintosh back in 1984. From what we can see of the commercial so far, the Xoom ad has a young man holding a bouquet of flowers, reading 1984 and moving in the midst of what one assumes are Apple devotees with the standard white earbuds.
The Xoom, which is expected to launch later this month, is Motorola’s answer to the iPad. The device will use Honeycomb, the first Android OS optimized for tablet use. While Motorola has yet to disclose pricing, rumors suggest it will sell for something around $800.
When Apple aired their first Macintosh commercial 27 years ago, they set out to break the mold and introduce something original. It appears Motorola plans to do the same with the Xoom but we’ll have to wait until Sunday night to watch the full ad and find out.
