Comcast’s XFINITY App for iPad Now Supports Video Streaming
Almost three months ago we wrote about the potential of Comcast’s XFINITY application for the iPad.
Comcast has touted their application for a while now. The app was supposed to enable XFINITY TV digital customers to watch TV shows and movies directly on the iPad either at home or on-the-go. With the latest app update, released last night, the XFINITY app now makes video streaming a reality.
The latest app version (1.1.1) allows you to play movies and TV shows anywhere and anytime on your iPad using a WiFi Internet connection.
If you’re a Comcast digital video service subscriber, the XFINITY app will allow you to access 10 live cable channels, including premium networks like HBO, Starz, Showtime and Cinemax. Keep in mind that you will also need a subscription to one or more eligible channels to play content. Comcast is currently working on adding additional channels to the streaming service.

In addition, the XFINITY app will let you change TV channels from the iPad and helps you search and instantly find what to watch among many top movies and premium cable shows. You can also program your DVRs to record TV shows, series and movies.
The XFINITY TV app latest version is available now for the iPad, free of charge.
Editor’s Notes:
- The XFINITY TV app supports many, but not all Comcast set-top boxes. For example, Scientific Atlanta set-top boxes are not yet supported. Comcast has provided a list of compatible set-top boxes in this site.
- The video streaming capability is only supported on the iPad for now. No details have been provided yet for iPhone video streaming capabilities.
