Latest Round of iPad 2 Rumors
Over the weekend, Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities released a note describing what he believes will be the feature set of the upcoming iPad 2, based on information coming from “reliable” sources.
Disappointing news, according to Kuo, and as mentioned by PadGadget over the last couple of weeks (see here and here), the iPad 2 will not feature a retina display after all, but will instead use the same resolution as the first generation iPad. Note that Apple’s display providers – Samsung and LG – will offer better displays though, as the new screens are expected to be about a third thinner than their first generation iPad counterparts, and should perform much better outdoors, thanks to a new anti-reflective coating.
The second generation iPad will also feature a new dual-core, ARM Cortex-A9-based processor running at 1.2GHz, tentatively called ‘Apple A5′. In comparison, both iPhone 4 and first generation iPad use the Apple A4 processor, a chip that only offers a single core running at 1GHz, based on the older ARM Cortex-A8 architecture. Just like the Apple A4, the Apple A5 will include a PowerVR graphics engine, but the new iPad 2 processor is expected to include the newer SGX543 from Imagination Technologies.
As for the iPad 2 cameras, the report indicates that the device will offer the same set of cameras found in the fourth generation iPod touch – VGA resolution for the front camera, and about 1MP for the back camera.
