Transfer Photos Between Aperture and iPad with Pixelsync
I’m sure many of you have become accustomed to the powerful tools Apple’s Aperture offer to refine your pictures and images, showcase your photography, and manage massive libraries on your Mac.
Many photography enthusiasts that own an iPad have already found ways or apps that can help them do some basic photo editing while on-the-go. Even though there are no plans (at least for now) of Apple releasing an Aperture iPad app, developers are already on the move. That is the case of Pixelsync for iPad.
Pixelsync is a new app that allows Aperture users to sync photos from their Aperture libraries to the iPad. The application allows you to review, rate and label your images while you’re on the road. Pixelsync can transfer and sync photos with your iPad from one or more Aperture libraries over a local WiFi connection. All you need to do is turn on your Mac, install a small application (Pixelsync Helper), and connect your iPad and your Mac using Pixelsync.
After rating and labeling the images, the iPad application allows you to select the photos you want to sync back to the Aperture library on your Mac. Pixelsync does not allow you to edit your images on your iPad, which is a bit disappointing, but it allows you to play around with the metadata. We hope to see editing capabilities in the near future since it will be a great addition to this nice app.

A bit of background information. Pixelsync was formerly known as “Tagalicious”. The developer had to rename the app due to a naming conflict with an existing Mac application. Pixelsync is available now for $5.99, which is a bit pricey for all the functionality included. However, given that it offers Aperture users some iPad functionality/integration, some folks might certainly give it a try. We certainly hope the developer adds some editing functionality to make it a great iPad companion.
Editor’s Note: Pixelsync requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later, Aperture 3.0 or later, and iOS 4.2.
