Wizard of Oz for iPad – Quick App Review

Don’t you love classic stories?  The Wizard of Oz is one of the best and a great new interpretation of the story is now available as an iPad app.

Created and illustrated by Jackie Huang, Wizard of Oz is a charming interactive app based on L. Frank Baum’s classic story.  Watch this timeless tale come to life as Dorothy is whisked from the dull, flat fields of Kansas to the wonderful Land of Oz. The story begins quietly and with sketched illustrations on the first six pages and then transforms into colorful paper-cut illustrations, interactive elements and entertaining sound effects.

As you read through the story, explore the interactive features in the Land of Oz by tapping and dragging objects on the screen or tilting and shaking your iPad.  Become part of the story as you help Dorothy make her way down the yellow brick road, oil the Tin Man’s joints, melt the Wicked Witch and much more.  With lots of interactive features from which to choose, make sure you search each page thoroughly before moving on to the next one.

If you enjoy interactive book apps, Wizard of Oz is a fun choice for kids who can read on their own or parents who like to read with their children.  You can download it from the App Store now for $5.99.

This looks awesome! I wonder if it will be too tough for my 4 year old to figure out?

    Jonathon,

I don’t think it would be hard to figure out BUT the only option for this story is to read it yourself, just like a book. There is no “read to me” option. I think the reading level would be too difficult for most 4 year olds. There are interactive features on the pages so you could read together and then have your child explore as you move through the story.

    Hope that helps.
