XBMC Joins the iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV

Looking for ways to stream your multimedia from anywhere in the house or directly from the internet? XBMC has traditionally helped many folks do that. It has been used by many to play popular audio and video formats around.

If you’re an XBMC fan, you should know that the open source software media player and entertainment hub has released two versions of the software for jailbroken iOS devices.

XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. Up until now, it was available for Linux, OSX, Windows, and the original Xbox. Even though XBMC is a non-profit project run by volunteers, it has managed to expand its reach around the world, and it’s now available in more than 30 languages.

Of course, you will not see XBMC in the App Store, since it directly competes with Apple products. In order to use it on your iPad you will need to jailbreak your device first.

According to the jailbreak XBMC version, you will no longer be limited to share media via iTunes for your iOS devices. In addition, the second-generation Apple TV becomes capable of streaming video in 1080p. This latest XBMC release is very focused on the iPad. However, the XBMC group is asking for developers to create gesture-driven skins for both the iPad and iPhone4.

In order to use XBMC on your iPad, you need to jailbreak your iPad, install Cydia and then add XBMC as a source.

Editor’s Note: As usual, remember that jailbreaking your iPad is legal, as long as you do not download copyrighted content illegally. Also note that Apple considers jailbreaking a warranty-voiding act, so do it at your own risk.

I can’t wait to get home and try this out. Up until this point my AppleTV 2 was pretty much a Netflix box. It will be nice to be able to stream content from my media server now.

And I got the tips that via some tools like handbrake and iFunia DVD ripper pro can make the Apple TV as a home centre, enjoy various video files(including HD) onto the widescreen TV freely, totally stunned!
