5 Million Beatles Songs Sold via iTunes
Earlier today, in an interview with The Loop, Apple representatives mentioned that The Beatles sold 5 million songs and a million albums via iTunes, in about two months.
According to Apple, the most popular song sold so far is Here Comes the Sun, currently sold for $1.29, while the best-selling album so far is Abbey Road, priced $12.99.
The Beatles catalog came to iTunes late last year, after more than seven years of negotiations between Apple, and Apple Corps, the company that owns most of The Beatles songs rights. Apple Inc. and Apple Corps have been at odds for more than a decade, and the companies even went to court over trademarks related disputes.
Unlike the vast majority of artists currently available via iTunes, The Beatles songs are treated differently, as the band’s songs rights owners are reportedly paid royalties directly, resulting in a better than average royalties deal for the songs’ owners.
