iPad Smart Case – Gear Review

Need a case to house and protect the new iPad you received over the holidays?  Then we’ve got a great case to tell you about. Students, business executives and just about anyone else with an iPad will appreciate the iPad Smart Case from Geminus Inc.

We received an evaluation case recently and were impressed as soon as we opened the package.  Inside was a nice box tied with gold ribbon which contained the case.  When we opened the box, the case was wrapped in tissue paper and sealed nicely with an embossed sticker.  Admittedly, my first thought was, “They must ship all their samples like this.”  But, I contacted Jovan Van Drielle at Geminus and was assured all cases are shipped that way.

I then proceeded to use the case for several days and really liked many of its features.  My iPad slid easily into its slot where a flap tucked behind it to hold it in place.  Cutouts provide easy access to ports and buttons while a number of credit card slots and pockets for papers provide plenty of storage inside the case.  Need to jot down a quick note?  There’s a Pop-Up Post-It Note slot and a pen (or stylus) loop for all your quick note taking needs.  You’ll also receive a microfiber cloth with your case to keep your screen clean.

A snap closure secures the case and all your belongings inside when your iPad’s not in use.  Want to watch a movie?  The “kickstand” design includes multiple slots allowing users to view the iPad screen in landscape mode from multiple angles.  Simple unsnap the “kickstand,” fold your case backwards and insert it into one of the slots.

The iPad Smart Case is well constructed and available in faux or genuine leather.  The faux leather case (our review unit) is currently in stock and will set you back $35.00, which is in line with, or even a little cheaper, than other cases currently on the market.  Interested in the genuine article?  The genuine leather option will be available in February and can be pre-ordered now for $55.00.  You also have the option to personalize your case in 7 different locations with blind debossing or foil stamping in gold, silver or white for $5.00 – $12.50 per location, depending on the name length.  Custom logos are also an option but require a custom die, so you need to email your logo for a quote.

What I liked: This case packs a lot of features into one product at a good price point.  The pen holder, business/credit card slots, microfiber cloth, Post-It Note dispenser and optional personalization are nice extras.

What I didn’t like: I prefer a case that has no stand tabs on the outside.

To buy or not to buy: Cases are definitely a personal preference and everyone has their likes and dislikes.  If you’re looking for a case with lots of extras and a good price point, the iPad Smart Case is a great choice.

Looks great though isn’t Smart Case already a trademarked name?

The “smart case” name has been used by several companies so to avoid any confusion we have changed the name to the “Geminus Genius” case. Based on customer reviews, this name says it all. Check out our product reviews on the web!

I’m sorry but my new Wallet from Happy Owl Studio is still the clear winner.

I have looked at both cases, and purchased the Geminus Smart Case. I think that one takes the prize for me. The Smart Case is sleeker, has more viewing angle options and can be personalized for only 5.00 So that makes the Geminus case still the clear “value” winner! I think it’s important to note that I purchased the faux leather case, and it looks and performs like genuine leather to me. The Owl wallet is more than twice the price and cannot be personalized. I noticed that the “inside pocket” of the Owl Studio case looks like the inside of my wife’s purse. Kind of messy and prone to disorganization. The Geminus Smart Case stays organized with easy access to only the most important information and cards that I need.
