The Monster at the End of This Book (for iPad) – App Review
The print version of The Monster at the End of This Book was first released in 1971 and just in time for the book’s 40th anniversary, Sesame Street has partnered with Callaway Digital Arts to bring their most popular title to the iPad.
The Monster at the End of This Book features the lovable, furry blue Grover who tries with all his might to prevent readers from turning to the next page in the book. Readers interact with the story as they untie knots, knock down brick walls and more to move through the story. Anticipation mounts and you’ll eventually discover the monster at the end of the book in the modern version of this popular Sesame Street children’s book.
Users have several options to choose from while reading. Move through the book a page at a time or by selecting a specific page from Settings by tapping the button in the top left twice. Settings allows you to turn “Parent Tip Mode” and “Page Turn Mode” on or off. ”Parent Tip Mode” is accessed by tapping the yellow circle in the top right corner twice and provides parents with questions to ask and topics to discuss in order to enrich the reading experience. When “Page Turn Mode” is on, kids will see an arrow prompting them to turn the page when it’s time. When it’s off, Grover will point to the bottom corner and the page will curl up indicating it’s time to continue.
The Monster at the End of This Book (for iPad) is an entertaining app for kids. They’ll love the story, its interactive features and discovering the monster at the end. You can download it from the App Store now for $0.99.
Note: I didn’t have any problems with the app crashing but several comments were left on the iTunes page from users who did. It’s recommended that users – “Please upgrade to iOS 4.2 and restart your iPad after installation.”
